We live in a time where it is so easy to get caught up in mindless activities during our free time. As much as we love spending hours on end scrolling through Instagram or binge-watching ‘Gossip Girl’, we really should wonder about all the things we could be doing in that spare time instead that could help us be so much more productive! Well, today I will be sharing with you all 5 activities you can do in your free time to ensure you take full advantage of it!
READ A BOOK
I know, I know, you have already heard it a million times before but think about it. What better way to spend your time productively than gaining new knowledge. Find a topic you would love to learn more about and get a book on it. Even if you read 2 pages a day, you would have learned something new that day by reading. For example, I have really been into self-help books lately and by reading them, I am actually applying all the knowledge I gain from them into my life and I have noticed a big difference in my mindset already. Even if you are someone who does not enjoy reading, try starting with a book that is easy to read on a topic that you really enjoy. Don’t force yourself to read stuff you find boring! Plus, reading also has shown to have so many amazing benefits such as reducing stress, memory improvement, and mental stimulation!
I know this is a hard one! Well, at least for me it is because for some reason taking out 5-10 minutes of my day to focus on my mental wellbeing seems like a lot to do! I know some people just don’t believe in the power of meditating while others like me find they are too ‘busy’ for it. Recently, I have made it a habit to meditate in the spare time I have before going to sleep instead of staring at my mobile phone. Might sound cliche but I have actually been feeling a lot more positive lately despite my consequences which I truly believe is due to meditating. So, the next time you have a few minutes to spare, have a little meditation session. The more regularly you do it, the better!
WATCH INSPIRATIONAL VIDEOS AKA TED TALKS
Watching inspirational videos is a great way to use your free time. I personally love watching Ted Talks. There are so many lessons I take from them and most of them never fail to motivate and inspire me. Since we are on the topic, I might as well pop in some of my favorite Ted Talks here!

Declutter- the thing almost all of us find an excuse not to do! Here’s the thing though, you will always feel a hundred times better once you are done with it! Decluttering not only helps your surrounding look cleaner but it has also shown to have some major positive psychological effects. Some of which include being able to focus more clearly on your goals, boosting your mood and also helping you be more creative. Whether it is your messy closet or your workspace, make sure you spend your free time ensuring your space looks clean and clutter free!
WORK ON YOUR HOBBY
Out of all of these, this would be the most ideal way to spend your free time because you get to do something you enjoy. This is also a great outlet for when you want to spend some alone time away from everyone else. Hobbies are a great way to get away from the stresses of everyday life. For example, my hobby is blogging. I literally look forward to blogging every day after work because I am so passionate about it and it is my creative outlet. Having hobbies can also help you meet new people who are passionate about the same things as you. More than anything, hobbies are great because they help you develop new skills. The amount of knowledge I have gained in my 2 years of blogging is amazing. With blogging, I am always learning something new and I LOVE that! Plus, the more time you spend on your hobby, the better you will become at it! You might even be able to make a side income out of it or turn it into a career!
It is so easy to take time for granted and fill it with activities that don’t do much for our mental and physical well-being. Of course, it is completely okay to indulge in useless activities now and again but ensuring you are adding some valuable and enriching activities in your free time is crucial!
