I am sure you can tell by the title of this post that today is a bit of a different post as I have never really done a travel-related post on here. Last weekend, my family and I decided to take a little road trip to Abu Dhabi. For those of you who don’t know, I live in UAE, Sharjah. Abu Dhabi is the somewhat peaceful capital of UAE.
We all woke up super early (9 AM on a weekend counts as early right!) and on any other day, I would be bummed about having to wake up early on a weekend but not this day! I was very excited for this road trip and could not wait to explore Abu Dhabi.
SHEIKH ZAYED MOSQUE
Our first stop was the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Mosque where we would perform our Friday prayers. This is known as the largest mosque in UAE and although this was my second time visiting this mosque, I was still left in awe of its beauty. This is actually quite a famous mosque. Numerous celebrities from all over the world have come to visit it (Selena Gomez and Rihanna to name a few). I mean, how can you not- just look at it!
By the time we were done with the prayer, we were all starving and very much ready for a meal. We decided to go to a very famous ‘Mandi’ place nearby that my brother had suggested. Mandi is a traditional Arab dish that consists of meat, rice, spices and some really delicious chutneys on the side. This was my first time having it and OMG, it was the most delicious thing ever! If you guys ever visit UAE, do not forget to have this dish especially if you love spicy and flavorful food.
AL BATEEN BEACH
Now that we were full and energized, it was time to drive around a little. There are a lot of beautiful beaches in Abu Dhabi. One of them being ‘ Al Bateen Beach’. I loved how peaceful it was there- it usually gets crowded here but we came at a good time.
We also decided to stop at the Corniche where we just sat and chilled for a while and a few little cat friends that we met there (too cute)!
As we were all craving something sweet, we decided to visit ‘Home Bakery’ which is located in ‘Umm Al Emarat Park’ There is also a Botanical Garden there that we wanted to check out.
I absolutely loved ‘Home Bakery’- from it’s aesthetically pleasing interior to the mouth-watering desserts! Home Bakery is especially known for its Milk Cakes which is why we decided to order them in THREE different flavors! We got them in Pistachio, Saffron, and Vanilla and these tasted just as good as they sound but if you must try one flavor, definitely go for the pistachio one as it tasted the best out of these. We also ordered the Almond Cone and Chocolate Chip Cookie with Ice Cream on top. Being. huge chocolate lover, I have to say my personal favorite was the Chocolate Chip Cookie!
The desserts definitely filled us up and so we decided to take a walk towards the Botanical Garden- in the hope that that would help shed some of those calories we had just consumed haha!
After that, we were all definitely ready to head back after the day of exploring and eating way too much! I am so glad we took this little road trip and I really hope to go on more trips like these in the future as it is such a nice getaway.
When was the last time you went on a road trip and where was it to? Let me know in the comments!
