When I first started blogging, I had no idea what DA was. I would often come across this word but never really took the time to understand what it actually meant. Why? Because it all just seemed way too technical for me. Well, if you are a beginner blogger who is just as confused as I was when first started out- I can assure you that it is really not as technical as it sounds. In this post, I will be sharing with you what DA aka Domain Authority actually is, why it is important, how you can check it and 5 simple ways to increase Domain Authority of your website. I actually increased by DA by 10 points using these steps and if I can do it, so can you!
WHAT IS DA (DOMAIN AUTHORITY)?
DA also known as Domain Authority is basically a score given to your website. This score determines how high your website will rank on a search engine like Google. This score can be anywhere between 0-100. The higher your DA score is, the more authority your website has. The more authority website has, the more chances of your articles ranking higher on Google.
WHY DOES DA MATTER?
Okay, so we know what DA is but why is it so important? Let’s ask ourselves this question- there are millions of articles out there on similar topics. How then does Google decide which articles to place on the very first page and in what order? One of the factors taken into consideration when deciding that is the website DA score. Higher DA means a higher rank on Google. Higher rank on Google means more people will find your site and your site traffic will increase tremendously! Also, many brands look at your DA score before deciding whether or not they want to work with you. If your DA score is high, they are more likely to offer you opportunities!
HOW TO CHECK YOUR DA?
There are tons of Domain Authority Checker websites available but the one I find to be the most accurate and easy to use is this one: SEO REVIEW TOOLS. You simply type in your blog URL and it will generate your DA score for you. It is great to know your DA score as you can know where you stand and then work your way from there to increase it. DA scores are updated monthly so you can check monthly to see how much progress you have made. Also, remember, you can only check your DA if you have bought your own domain. For example, if your domain ends with .wordpress.com. it will give you the DA of WordPress, not your site.
5 WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR DA
The number one thing I would recommend to anyone wanting to increase their DA is to download the plugin ‘YOAST’. Yoast is an SEO plugin. It basically helps you make your site as search engine friendly as possible. Once you are done writing a blog post, you simply go to this plugin. It will pinpoint all the errors to you and all the things you can do to improve your blog post. Once you get the ‘green light’- it means your blog post is now search engine friendly.
Internal & External Linking
There are two different types of links that you should be adding in your blog posts to make sure your blog posts are of high quality. Both have their own benefits.
Internal Linking is part of on-page SEO. It is basically when you add links in your articles to other articles/pages on your own website. Doing this will allow people to spend more time on your website, give them more in-depth information on a certain topic and of course Google loves sites that have tons of useful links in their posts. It shows that your website is a helpful resource for people.
External Linking, on the other hand, is part of off- page SEO and is when you add links in your articles to websites other than your own. For example, if you are reviewing a product, and you provide a direct link to where your audience can actually purchase that product or if you are writing about a certain topic, you can add links to more authoritative and credible website that specialize in that specific topic. This will tremendously help you gain your reader’s trust as they will know you are providing them with useful information and not just something you came up with from the top of your head. Google loves sites that have high quality and trustworthy websites linked in their posts so you are definitely likely to rank higher by doing this.
There are tons of benefits of guest posting- it is crucial for networking as a blogger, increasing your blog exposure, and most importantly, getting high-quality backlinks. So, what are high-quality backlinks and why are they important for your DA? Backlinks are links on external websites that lead to any page on your site. If a website with a high DA links to your website, this would be considered a high-quality backlink. This is why it is important to take every opportunity you get to guest post on websites with high DA as that will really help increase your DA and in turn, your page rank on Google. Remove Broken Links
This is something very simple that many of us often forget to do. Broken links are any links on your website that lead to a page that no longer exists. Isn’t it annoying when you click on a link only to be directed to a page with a 404 error? You definitely do not want your visitors to feel the same way. Google knows broken links create a bad experience for visitors. It will decrease your page rankings if your site is filled with them. If you want to have a good DA score, it is essential to remove these. The simplest way of doing that is by downloading the ‘Broken Link Checker‘ plugin. You just have to run it and will show you all the broken links you have on your site and you simply need to remove them accordingly.
